SUMMARY:CfP: The 2nd International Medieval Sermon Studies Society Doctoral and Postdoctoral Online Forum
DESCRIPTION:The International Medieval Sermon Studies Society (IMSSS) promotes and fosters the study of medieval sermons and preaching in Latin and vernacular languages within their social\, literary\, religious\, intellectual\, theological\, catechetical\, political\, and historical contexts. Continuing with our initiative established last academic year\, IMSSS seeks to provide an online forum for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers to receive input on their projects from peers and senior scholars in a virtual format. To this end\, we are inviting current PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers to submit proposals for the second IMSSS Virtual Research Workshop.\nThe purpose of the Workshop is two-fold: To assist PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers in developing and improving their research projects; To assist PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers in building an international network of fellow students and renowned faculty.\nEarly career scholars will have the opportunity to present their current research projects – or any aspects of those projects related to preaching – for discussion by their colleagues and senior faculty. One or two designated respondents\, chosen for their topical expertise\, will provide initial feedback and questions for further consideration. Open discussion will follow.\nWe invite proposals in two different categories:\n– Thesis Proposals and/or a short sample from your PhD thesis: appropriate for PhD candidates who desire feedback on their ideas for their continuing work.\n– Research Papers: Early career scholars with projects at any stage toward completion\, from initial conception to completed studies.\n– Presenters from last year may submit a proposal\, but priority will be given to first-time applicants. Those interested in attending and presenting their research should submit a brief statement of interest by November 21\, 2022 to the following Council Member of the Society: Dr Carolyn Muessig (carolyn.muessig@ucalgary.ca).\nThis statement should contain:\nName\nAffiliation\nName(s) of advisor(s)\nProject title\nBrief project description (250 words)\nAfter receiving the proposals\, we plan to organize two or three virtual meetings\, tentatively in January\, February\, and April. Those chosen to participate will be asked to send a more substantial project description to the designated responder(s) at least 2 weeks prior to the event. If you would like more information about the society\, its journal Medieval Sermon Studies\, and membership please visit our website: https://imsss.net/
